PURPOSE - MISSION AND VISION
Brandon Lee Brinkley Foundation , Inc
December 6, 2008 our family suffered a huge loss…Brandon Lee Brinkley was murdered due to gun violence in Wilmington, Delaware three days following his 25th birthday. At the time, he was pursuing a career in barbering and attending The American Beauty Academy located downtown Wilmington. This unfortunate tragedy left a void, yet sparked desires of the family wanting to bless others pursuing barbering and cosmetology careers. The Brandon Lee Brinkley Foundation, Inc., was birthed and acknowledged as a 501c3 February 13, 2012.
Students compete annually for scholarships by presenting a powerpoint, technological video, or essay presentation at the high school level or college-bound students entering their freshman year of college. Our first awards were awarded to students attending The American Beauty Academy December 2011 and Delcastle Technical High School during the years 2013 through 2017. Our college-bound award was birthed in 2017 and continues to date.
BLBF have provided donations to students attending summer camp and currently provide after-school services to students for homework and reading assistance at the Neighborhood House three days per week. We support programs tackling literacy and participate in several grassroots organizations as a survivor advocating for safer gun laws with the expectation gun violence will one-day end, build safer communities, and fight for changes that will save lives.
Lastly, “You Only Live Once,” presented by Christiana Care’s Trauma Unit in the Christiana Care, Newark, Delaware, bears one story with Brandon’s name as the gun violence victim who entered their hospital prior to succombing to his death. Program targets youth / young adults ages 13 through 24.
